Are you a Ham Radio Operator?
Because of their versatile and extended-range communications abilities, ham radio operators are especially useful in SKYWARN. Whenever severe weather strikes locally, a ham radio spotter “net” is activated on a local ham radio repeater. A “net” is an organization of radio stations that is capable of direct communication on a common frequency. (Basically, that means we all tune into the same channel at the same time so we can communicate the severe weather information to each other).
Lucas County SKYWARN™ Frequencies:
147.27+ (pl 103.5)
Our backup frequency is:
147.345

But I am not a Ham!
Even if you’re not a ham, you can still listen in if you have a Programmable Scanner (also known as a police scanner). So, program it in! (Just ignore the pl information and +/-)
You don’t need to be a ham to give severe weather reports. There are several ways you can get your severe weather reports to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, either directly, or via Lucas County Skywarn.
